The polished looks and edge-to-edge glass of the MC7803u make Gateway’s $999 all-purpose box seem a little more premium than its guts actually are. With its trimmer-than-average case and eye-catching custom paint options, the Falcon Northwest FragBook TLX looks like a gamer’s dream.Of course, all of this comes at a price. While we like the cool-looking raindrop pattern gracing our review unit’s fire-engine-red case, we doubt it was worth the $764 it added to the notebook’s $3,277 starting price. (Adding your own artwork will cost still more.) It’s also worth noting that, despite the hefty price you pay for the FragBook’s design, it doesn’t come with a lighting scheme like those we saw on the Dell XPS M1710 and the Asus G1.
